Built
in 1951 this Bristol KSW low bridge Double
Decker Bus spent 19 years in service for
Wilts & Dorset Motor Service in South England.
In 1970 the Bus was converted into a mobile
home by a group of young people calling
themselves, The Overland Five. On an attempted
world tour, the Overland Five drove the
Bus through Russia, Europe, Greece, Turkey,
India, Nepal (this being the first Double
Decker to reach Kathmandu) and Australia
before arriving in NZ in late 1973. The
bus was then sold and spent 10 years travelling
NZ as a mobile information exchange centre
on alternative lifestyles, then another
10 years as a sales centre for the World
Book Encyclopaedia & for a short time was
used as mobile diner. The Bus has been in
Taupo since 1994. |
